Mosquitoes carrying West Nile Virus have been located in Kanawha County. The Kanawha-Charleston Health Department reports that the virus has been located in the lower falls area of Tornado. The virus is caused by mosquitoes carry the virus to humans from infected birds. Symptoms of the virus include fever, especially with a headache, and seizures. West Virginia's first case was found in 2002.
