Around 30 bikers in Barboursville were revving up their engines and strapping on their biker boots Saturday; all for a little girl.
"She just touched our hearts as bikers," RobiAnn Cruickshank said. "So we've adopted her as our child this year." Cruickshank says this poker run is for Katelynn Stinnett. The two-year-old was raped and thrown on the floor in an apartment in Lexington, Kentucky last November. Because of her injuries she died eight days later. "It's my job to do that here on Earth," Pam Morrison said. "To help out the ones who can't help themselves." Helping by doing what they love...riding bikes. They also sold 50/50 tickets, badges and T-shirts. The entry fee for the ride was $10 per rider or $15 for couples. The money raised goes straight to Team for West Virginia Children, an organization in Huntington that specializes in child abuse. "If I can save one child's life by having this poker run and have all these great people show up and help us, it's all worth it," Cruickshank said. "One child...all worth it." A tearful story that has these bikers doing what they can to make a difference. "Absolutely," Morrison said. "I'm doing my part." On Katelynn's headstone, Cruickshank says there's a poem that reads "When I hear the pipes roar, I will spread my wings and with you soar." And by the sound of the pipes from these bikers, they hope her spirit and memory are flying high. The poker run started in Barboursville, ran through Ona, Milton and Hurricane before ending on Maccorkle Avenue in St. Albans.
