The mayor of Point Pleasant is resigning due to health reasons.
Mayor Leonard "Buster" Riffle is stepping down Saturday, June 13, 2009.
The city council has scheduled a special meeting on Thursday, June 11, 2009, to appoint a successor to fill out Riffle's remaining term.
That term end in 2011.
Riffle served as a city council member from 1966 to 1999.
He was appointed mayor last year after former mayor Marilyn McDaniel resigned.
