Heavy rains have flooded portions of Southern West Virginia and Southeastern Kentucky.
The National Weather Service is predicting the Guyandotte River will crest above flood stage later today in both Logan and Man. A Flood Warning is in effect for both Logan and Lincoln Counties.
Eyewitness News reporter Bob Aaron is reporting that part of Route 10 has collapsed two miles outside of Gilbert in Mingo County. He also says two people were injured when the trailer they were in was swept away. Their conditions are unknown, but they were taken to the hospital.
The National Weather Service has issued Flood Warnings for Logan, McDowell, Mingo and Wyoming Counties in West Virginia and Floyd, Johnson, Magoffin, Martin, Morgan and Pike Counties in Kentucky through this morning.
911 dispatchers tells us the hardest hit area appears to be Gilbert in Eastern Mingo County. Other hard hit areas include Warren Cliff, Matewan, Varney and Red Jacket. Route 52 is currently closed in Taylorsville.
Flooding is reported in Rum Creek, Mt. Gay and the Bruno/Man areas in Logan County, and the Meade, Coal City, Lego and Rhodell areas in Raleigh County.
Rescue crews have also been conducting evacuations and are urging people not to travel through this area as high water has covered roads. Remember, if you see rising water, get to higher ground, and if you're traveling in your car, turn around, don't drown.
The National Weather Service has received several reports of rainfall totals over 1.5" and also of creeks and streams coming into buildings across this area.
