Teays Valley Assistant Fire Chief, Steve Connolly says it's getting harder to respond to emergency calls.
"We were asked to respond to 875 calls last year we actually made it out the door a little over 600 times." says Connolly.
That's why he and other firefighters are pushing for an increase in the fire fee.
"Our proposition is to increase the fire fee so we could have 16 full time paid firefighters to be able to service the entire county." says Connolly.
But the departments needs public input.
"I think that your firefighters should get paid volunteer or professional." says Aaron Billups.
Hank Light of Hurricane says, "I think firefighters should absolutely be paid if they're willing to risk their lives for the protection of the public."
And Tonya Johnson of Scott Depot agrees, "I think it would be great if we could pay them. They deserve it."
Connolly say nearly 9900 residents in Putnam County will be receiving a survey along with their water bill and he says once you fill that survey out don't forget to send it back.
And Connolly says when you break it down, a life saved is worth every penny.
