A controversial drug testing bill just got more backing from an unlikely source.
During a press conference Wednesday, Brian Caldwell along with his wife, spoke on behalf of Berkeley County Delegate Craig Blair's random drug testing bill for recipients of government assistance.
Caldwell says he used to trade food stamps for drugs. He says sometimes he didn't even have enough food for his family. Caldwell says he feels the bill would help other people like him get back on track.
According to the bill, if someone receiving public assistance tests positive for drugs, they would have two months to get clean. If they test positive again, they would lose their assistance. Caldwell says if this bill would have been around nearly 4 years ago, his life may have been completely different.
Caldwell says he's been clean since 2006, and hopes the bill passes so others won't have to go through what he did.
