Finding out you're losing your job is never good news. But when that news comes around the holidays, it makes it even worse.
Plant worker, Lyle Gillispie, says, "I would say right around Christmas time, it's gonna be hard here."
"When I went home yesterday with my wife and my girls and I told them I lost my job today there were some tears. It was very, very upsetting." says, worker, Lyle McMicken.
More than 40 workers at Greif Brothers Corporation in Culloden were in total shock when they found out they were losing their jobs at the end of December.
Gillispie says, "We have 11 laid off now. I was thinking maybe that would be the hardest hit. But they're gonna take us clear out."
Greif Brothers manufactures industrial packaging systems. Gillispie, who all serves as the Union President, says several of the workers including himself recently bought homes closer to the plant.
"When the gas prices increased I came down here and bought a house close so I could walk to work, save myself some money. So now that reason's gone." says Gillispie.
Not only are the workers going to have to find jobs elsewhere, the company itself is being dissolved.
Gillispie says, "They're closing us down. And they'll absorb us in other plants."
McMicken adds, "We're gonna try to make some job contacts and see about getting another job. My family we're a praying family. So we're trusting the Lord will provide and take care of us."
Union workers will meet with company representatives on Wednesday to discuss a severance package.
