Betty Flowers remembers the man she admired and loved...her husband, Benjie.
"He took on a family that was in a lot of turmoil, that was half and he made them whole," she said.
After being reported missing for three days, Benjie was found dead in the Guyandotte River near his home on Altizer Avenue.
According to his family, Flowers suffered from Bipolar Disorder and had taken too many medications at once, then left the house. His step-son, Roger, says he knew he couldn't have gone far.
"I searched two days straight looking for him," he said.
Flowers says she's sure her husband's decisions were affected by his disease.
"I honestly do not think that Benjie Flowers knew what he had done," she said. "By the time anyone had believed me, it was too late for my husband."
Now this family is trying to let go of their best friend, while holding on to each other.
Flower's body has been sent to the State Medical Examiner's Office. The cause of death has not yet been determined.
