The last day for early voting in Charleston consisted of hundreds of voters and long lines.
"Early voting turnout to this magnitude in this area has proven that America still exists," Keith Riggs said.
Riggs says he doesn't mind waiting an hour to vote, because seeing all of the people waiting with him makes the cause worth while.
"So much enthusiasm in voting this time around means that people want to take an active role in deciding the destiny of our nation," he said.
"It's a great thing," Lionel Chinnery said. "It's patriotic, it's part of our American process. It's something we can do."
"I just think everybody can say they played a part in history in this particular election," Susan Miller said.
County Clerk Vera McCormick says the long lines can only mean one thing.
"Voters are interested in this election," she said.
As for Riggs, he hopes the younger generation will look at this election year and remember.
"Hopefully when these young people get of voting age, that they will remember these long lines, that they will remember that they do have a voice in what happens in our nation," Riggs said.
Early voting is now over in West Virginia. Those still wishing to cast their ballot must do so Tuesday, Nov. 4th.
