POWER TEAMfrom Eyewitness News Online Strong Men, Stronger Message
Reported by:
Videographer: Matt Durrett Web Producer: Rudi Raynes Updated: October 16, 2008 2:06pm
Jonathan Caldwell says when he and his friends do their shows they have their audience's attention and respect.
And who wouldn't respect a guy ripping a phone book in half or another guy busting full cans of soda in your face! Students at Winfield Middle School are getting a dose of the Power Team, a group of strong men who travel the world showing off cool tricks with their muscles. Winfield student Braiden Maddox says,"It's awesome cause we're kinda like a small state and it's kinda cool for them to come to here. Just small town Winfield." But it's not just about their amazing muscles. The purpose of the Christian-based power team is to inspire young people to make wise choices including picking the right friends. Caldwell says, "The youth of America, they are so distracted by so many things. The drugs and the alcohol, the negative influences in their lives. We want to for one hour come in here and distract them back in the right direction which is their goals and their dreams." Winfield Middle students say what these men do physically is amazing, but their attitudes are equally as impressive. Student Chris Davis says, "They're giving a good message like how to make the right choices and stuff." And Zane Hutchison adds, "It's good because they're explaing the word to 'em to not do drugs and not do bad stuff." Jonathan Caldwell is a native of Milton, West Virginia and he says, when kids tell him they'd given up hope until they heard the Power Team's uplifting message, it makes all the hard work worthwhile. "The injuries that we go through. The things that we put our bodies through. It makes it it worth it. It keeps us going one more time." says Caldwell. If you'd like to catch the Power Team they'll be doing those tricks and many more at the St. John United Methodist Church in Scott Depot every night this until Sunday (Oct. 15-19). It's free and their shows start at 7:00 pm.
