In a 4 to 1 vote, members of the Kanawha County School Board voted to pass a mandatory drug testing policy Wednesday night.
The policy applies to employees who work with children or who are in "safety sensitive" positions like teachers.
Before the meeting, teachers from around Kanawwha County picketed outside, toting signs with the words "vote no." The topic came up in a fiery discussion where teachers voiced their concerns with passing this policy. Many teachers say they are very upset that this policy passed and some even say they will refuse to get tested.
Superintendent Ron Duerring says this new policy won't take effect immediately. An implementation timeline will be revealed during a November 20th school board meeting after careful consideration.
