The World's Strongest Men will pack on Calories by the thousands as they prepare for the start of competition Saturday.
Dave Ostlund, Competitor, "Just a normal breakfast. Bacon, eggs, oatmeal, some fruit."
That is if you call, 8 eggs, a plate full of bacon and a huge bowl of oatmeal, normal.
In the case of the world's strongest men that's just the tip of the iceberg.
And it's the dubious task of the cooks at the Whitewater Grille to keep the men full and happy.
Executive chef Loren Schreder has cooked for athletes before but this takes the cake, literally.
Loren Schreder, Executive Chef, "I had an idea but these guys eat more."
And by more, Schreder means 30 dozen eggs, more than 600 strips of bacon, a case of fruit and that's just breakfast for 30 men.
For dinner they'll pile on the proteins and carbohydrates with lean meats and vegetables.
It all adds up to about 12,000 calories everyday for each contestant and lots of extra work in the kitchen.
Loren Schreder, "We're going to incur some overtime for sure."
Matt Hill, Cook, "We can definitely handle the food, it's no problem."
4th time competitor Dave Ostlund says it's not all about feeding huge appetites, it's a necessity.
Dave Ostlund, "You need the carbs to fuel all the training sessions and the protein to rebuild the muscle tissue after you break it down."
Schreder says he expects nothing less than a demolished buffet after every meal with only a few scraps left behind.
The World's Strongest Man Competition starts Saturday at Magic Island.
All the events are free and open to the public.
