Fewer Americans are hit the open road during the Labor Day weekend. Automotive group AAA estimated almost 35 million people traveled during the three day weekend, down about a percent from last year.
Experts believe the fewer travelers may be because of the weather and not fuel prices which fell from highs reached several weeks ago. Travelers say the price at the pump didn't stop their plans.
"I was thinking about it [gas prices]," Diana Chappell of Roanoke, Virginia said. "But I was like, I'm not going to let it ruin my plans."
TAAA said people that did travel went at least 50 miles away from home
