Some students at West Virginia State University weren't sure if it was safe to come back to school after Thursday night's explosion at the Bayer CropSciences plant.
"I was afraid to come to school this morning," student Tim Steele said. "I was like I wonder if we have class."
But others figured since classes were not canceled, everything was fine.
"I just figured if they canceled them there should be something to worry about," Armon Jalali said. " But since they didn't it should be alright."
The school issued a voluntary shelter in place order for the about 500 students that live on campus. Officials said they used a new system which sends emergency information to email, cell phones, and home phones to notify students and staff about the explosion.
"We alerted them at 11 p.m. and 11:10 p.m.," Public Safety Department Chief Joseph Saunders said.
The university said no buildings on campus were damaged. Officials plan on reviewing the schools response to see where there is room for improvement.
