With the Ironton-Russell Bridge out of commission for almost two months for repairs, drivers have to use a detour. For most that means going across the Ben Williamson Memorial Bridge, which connects Coal Grove to Ashland.
But since crews are busy waterproofing this bridge, a quick detour is now a long wait.
"All this traffic is ridiculous," Nellie Walker said. "We're coming from Portsmouth and Ironton and we can't even get up through here. It takes 45 minutes at times to get across this bridge."
Walker says she doesn't understand why both bridges are under construction at the same time.
Foreman Robert Perkins said his waterproofing project was scheduled long before the construction of the Ironton-Russell Bridge.
Kathleen Fuller with the Ohio Department of Transportation said any construction with the Ashland bridge is the doing of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
The waterproofing is expected to last through Friday.
