Police catch up with the man accused of shooting his girlfriend in cold blood at a Charleston Taco Bell. An anonymous tip led officers to Desmond Clark at a house on Woodland Drive just before 1:00 on Saturday morning.
Desmond Clark had little to say during his video arraignment. Clark is facing first degree murder charges in the shooting of his girlfriend Nalisha Gravely at the Taco Bell on Patrick Street.
Police say Clark kidnapped Gravely from the Northside of Charleston Saturday. She managed to escape Clark's SUV and ran into the Taco Bell, jumping over the counter to a back room hoping to find safety. Moments later Clark runs in the restaurant and jumps over the counter after her. Police say he shot her several times.
Clark's mom defends her son saying he is not the monster portrayed by the shocking events. His mother says someone had to gave him pills and alcohol and that is what she feels made him turn violent.
Police say Clark has a troubled past, including charges of kidnapping, burglary, domestic battery and malicious wounding, shows he has a history of violence. Court records indicate that in the past four years, Clark has been accused seven times of shooting, stabbing, beating or kidnapping Gravely. If convicted Clark faces life in prison. His preliminary hearing is scheduled for July 16th.
Clark's mother says her heart goes out to the Gravely family, and she wishes this would have never happened. The couple have a three-year-old son together.
