A jury convicts a former Magistrate Judge for trying to retaliate against a witness. Carolyn Cruickshanks, who resigned her position in Braxton County, was accused of delivering court documents to jail that identified an inmate who testified against her son as an informant.
Friends and family said she should not go to jail, but Cruickshanks was sentenced Monday to 120 days in jail by Judge John Hatcher and was taken into custody immediately. She was also fined, given 60 months probation and told to work more than 2000 hours of community service at an animal shelter.
Cruickshanks testified that she made an error in judgment, but didn't think she was committing a crime. She was immediately moved to the Central Regional Jail in Flatwoods to begin her sentence. She's expected to spend 4 months in the jail.
