A fifth grader at Spring Hill Elementary School was caught smoking marijuana in the schools bathroom. His mother says she was shocked when she found out because using drugs is not an option at her home. She says the crowd that her son hangs out with is partly to blame, and Huntington's growing drug problem is another.
The city's drug problem has been on the rise for the past several years.
Board of Education Director Of Communications, Jedd Flowers says "We have seen a growing use of among all students from elementary all the way through high school, of drug and alcohol abuse."
Parents says they want something done and are willing to do whatever it takes to make sure their children make the right decisions. The student has been suspended from Spring Hill for the next 10 days.
