Christina Starcher was driving to a doctors appointment on April 28th when her car hydroplaned and flipped into a ditch on Goff Mountain Road. She now wants a guardrail put up in the hopes that similar accidents will not happen.
Stracher has a hard time getting around because of her osteoporosis, but the wreck caused such damage to her back that now needs a walker. She knows she is lucky to be alive and now wants something done to block off the ditch. Starcher says she'd like to see a guardrail put up around the ditch, something to draw attention to the spot.
Lieutenant Bryan Stover with the Kanawha County Sheriff's Department says accidents happen on Goff Mountain Road periodically, but he says the responsibility of safety falls on the drivers. The Department of Transportation says the ditch may be too close to road to put in a guardrail, but other options like a sign could be placed to warn drivers.
