KCS Board Candidates Change Ads After Violating District Policy

CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Kera Mashek) Three candidates are now changing some of their campaign ads in the race for three open positions on the Kanawha County School Board after the district raised legal questions about some of the footage they used.

Becky Jordon, Calvin McKinney, and Vic Sprouse all featured public school buildings in some form in their campaign ads. The problem is that the school district has a policy that schools and school property should not be used for political purposes in any way. There is no legal penalty for violating the policy, but the district says if there was a serious enough violation, they could seek to prevent use of school images through a court injunction.

But in this case, the three candidates voluntarily changed their advertisements to remove images of Kanawha County Schools.
