CHARLESTON, W.Va. (Kera Mashek) -- The Charleston Montessori School is encouraging students to get active this spring. Wednesday, students joined with employees from Covenant House and the law firm Kay, Casto & Chaney for an urban hike. It's the 9th of 10 such walks students have taken this year. The walks aren't just about exercise--they're designed to be a learning experience, too!

"We believe that a lot of learning can occur outside of the classroom. So we like to get the children outside and learning the plants, the streets, directions...how they themselves are capable of getting out and about and bringing their families along so that during the summer they know great places to go and take their friends," Emily Hopta, Charleston Montessori school board member, said.

Montessori students will take their final walk of the school year next week at the Kanawha State Forest.
