If yesterday's tryouts at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, California, are any indication, the next season of "American Idol" will be light on country and heavy on Michael Jackson material. A lot of Idol hopefuls were ready with Michael Jackson songs. And, one of the show's producers says "since Michael's death a lot of people are showing their support, singing his songs. He means something to an enormous amount of people." There are two more "America Idol" tryouts left for the new season: July 9 in Orlando and July 14 in Denver.
NASHVILLE, Tenn. Everything's fine with Josh Turner and his expanding family. Turner's wife, Jennifer, has given birth to a son. They've named him Colby Lynch Turner. Colby has a big brother, two-year-old Hampton. Josh Turner has spent the last several weeks in the studio recording his fourth album. He says his producer jokingly told his wife she needed to wait until they finished the record before giving birth. So, the album was finished Thursday at 6 in the evening. Turner says after he got home, his wife went into labor. They were at the hospital by 10:30 that night. Little Colby waited a bit and made Friday his birthday. Ray Price - Surgery NASHVILLE, Tenn. Ray Price could be the classic country poster boy for getting a colonoscopy. Price's agent says a colonoscopy revealed Price had a large number of polyps in the pre-cancerous stage. He had them removed. And, now he's recovering at home in Texas. Price, who's 83, expects to be back on the road in a few weeks. Kris Kristofferson - Honor NASHVILLE, Tenn. An honor for Kris Kristofferson. He's getting the Icon award from the music licensing group, BMI. BMI gives the honor to songwriters and artists who have had a "unique and indelible" influence on generations of music makers. Past honorees include Dolly Parton, Willie Nelson, the Bee Gees, James Brown and Crosby, Stills and Nash. Kristofferson will get his award as part of an all-star musical tribute in Nashville on November 10. Her was Easier" from 1971. Aaron Tippin NASHVILLE, Tenn. Aaron Tippin wants you to get off the couch and exercise. He'd also like you to buy his new Aaron Tippin Nutrition line of products. Before Tippin became a country singer, he was a body-builder. That was 20 years ago and he's still into the health-thing. Tippin has a motto to go with his new products: "living well for the time of your life." Concerts - Three In Top-Five Are Country Country Music World Country fans are coming out to support their favorite artists on the road. Three out of the top-five concerts of any type this year are country. Here are the top five grossing concerts so far: Coachella near Palm Springs, which is rock, grossed $15 million; Stagecoach in the same location, which is country, grossed $6 mil; George Strait, Reba McEntire, Blake Shelton and Lee Ann Womack together near Dallas brought in about $5.3 million; Kenny Chesney, Sugarland, Montgomery Gentry, Miranda Lambert and Lady Antebellum together in Chicago took in a little more than $3 million.
