from Eyewitness News Online International Lottery Scam
There is a foreign lottery scheme out there now with a troublesome new twist. U.S. Postal Inspectors say Jamaica is the home base for a foreign lottery scam where con men are threatening victims. Typically, con men involved in lottery schemes call their victims, tell them they've won a prize and then try to convince them to pay a tax or a fee to collect their winnings. The Jamaican ringleaders don't stop there. Postal inspectors say these guys get incredibly aggressive. Using new technology like Google Earth, they are able to see a satellite photo of the victim's home close up and then use that information to threaten them. Postal inspectors are stepping up efforts to combat this new crime gang and protect U.S. citizens. They are working with the Department of Justice to track these people down and extradite them back to the U.S. to face federal charges. Postal inspectors want you to remember, there is no foreign lottery and anyone trying to convince you that you've won is probably scamming you.
