Arts education is in a decline in some schools. That means many kids are missing out on the benefits of early exposure to art and creativity. Renowned pop artist Burton Morris, is about to become a father. He's had his work displayed in many areas, even on the tv show, "Friends". He says art is important way for kids to express themselves, in a positive way.

Burton Morris, Pop Artist
I'm known for taking everyday objects and icons in my artwork. So whether it's a coffee cup or popcorn box, drawing a toaster- everything around you- can be works of art.

He says basic drawing and painting can help kids gain the tools they need for creative problem solving and communication skills. Parents just need to take the time to give a little encouragement. And simple, inexpensive, art supplies are available everywhere.

Burton Morris
Simple paper or pen and crayons believe me, it's so inexpensive they can draw whatever they want. Drawing a little pop tart is so fun. Just having fun with it, and letting a kid express themselves. I mean you can really do anything.

Experts say arts, contributes to a well-rounded childhood.

Dr. Joe Matusic, MD, Pediatrician
[During summer break] The more you keep them active, and keep their brain active, the better off a child will be.

Burton Morris
Kids can enjoy themselves for hours and as a parent you should encourage them. Save the artwork. Whether you're cutting paper and doing mosaics, or sponge art. It's so important to look around you. The world is open. There's no right or wrong in the art world.

Morris also suggests visiting http://www.poptarts.com/popart for details on creating your own wearable art in the form of a t-shirt featuring his designs. Parents and kids can enter t-shirt designs into a contest with the chance to win a Burton Morris print. One grand prize winner will get to spend a day with the artist himself.
