Derek McGinty Co-Anchor of World News Now on WCHS-TV8 
Derek McGinty joined ABC News in March, 2001, as an anchor and correspondent. In his first assignment, Mr. McGinty serves as co-anchor "World News Now," the network's overnight news broadcast. He also reports for other ABC News programs. Mr. McGinty joined ABC News from the ABC affiliate in Washington, DC, WJLA-TV, where he has been co-host of "Capital Sunday," a weekly news interview program that he will continue to host. He is also a regular substitute anchor on WJLA's newscasts. In addition to his duties for ABC and WJLA, Mr. McGinty serves as a correspondent for HBO's "Real Sports." Prior to joining WJLA, Mr. McGinty was a correspondent for the CBS newsmagazine "Public Eye with Bryant Gumbel." He was also the host of the PBS program "Straight Talk with Derek McGinty." Mr. McGinty gained a national reputation as host of "The Derek McGinty Show," a radio program broadcast on WAMU-FM, beginning in 1991. In 1994 the show received the highest programming honor in public radio when it won the Gold Award for Public Affairs Programming from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. Prior to his work at WAMU-FM, Mr. McGinty co-hosted "The Daily Drum," a news and interview program covering local politics on WHUR-FM in Washington, DC. He has also been a reporter/editor for UPI's Washington metro desk and a news editor at WTOP radio. Mr. McGinty began his career as a desk assistant in the Washington bureau of ABC News Radio. A native of Washington, DC, Mr. McGinty is a graduate of American University, where he received a Bachelor's degree in communications. Need to write?
