Jessica Hecht Betsy on What About Joan
Jessica Hecht portrays Betsy, a high school music teacher and one of Joan Gallagher's best friends, in the new romantic comedy series with Joan Cusack, "What About Joan."No stranger to television comedy, Ms. Hecht has appeared for five seasons as Susan on the NBC hit series "Friends," and starred with Jonathan Silverman on NBC's "The Single Guy." A constant presence on the New York stage, Ms. Hecht starred in the world premiere of "Stop Kiss" at the prestigious Public Theater, and also starred in "Lobster Alice" and "Plunge" at Playwrights Horizon. Prior to this she made her Broadway debut as Lala Levy in the Tony Award-winning play "The Last Night of Ballyhoo," and toured the country in "The Heidi Chronicles." She was most recently seen at the Williamstown Theater Festival in "Light Up the Sky," with Eric Stoltz and Ron Rifkin. In addition to "Friends," Ms. Hecht's other television performances include the pilot of "Family Brood" (CBS), written by Tom Fontana, and appearances on series such as "Seinfeld," "Party of Five," "Early Edition," "Homicide" and "The Beat." She was also seen in "The Christmas Tree," a movie for television directed by Sally Field. Ms. Hecht's feature film credits include "Jump," "Joe's Rotten World" and "Kicking and Screaming." Ms. Hecht grew up in Bloomfield, Connecticut, in a family of psychiatrists and psychotherapists. She lives in New York with her husband, director Adam Bernstein, and her beautiful daughter, Stella.
