Donna Murphy Tony Award-winner Donna Murphy slips into a role that's tailor-made for her with Ruby, a psychiatrist and one of Joan Gallagher's best friends, on ABC's new romantic comedy with Joan Cusack, "What About Joan."

Ms. Murphy is a critically acclaimed, award-winning actress whose wide-ranging work has been seen on and off Broadway and on the large and small screens. She has won two Tony Awards for Best Actress for her performances in the highly acclaimed revival of "The King and I" and in Stephen Sondheim's and James Lapine's "Passion" (a role she recreated for PBS's "American Playhouse").

On screen Ms. Murphy was recently seen in "Center Stage," directed by Nicholas Hytner. She also co-starred with Patrick Stewart in "Star Trek: Insurrection," and was featured in "The Astronaut's Wife," with Johnny Depp, and "Jade," directed by William Friedkin.

For her performance in HBO's "Someone Had to Be Benny," she received a CableAce Award as Best Actress in a Drama Special or Series, as well as a Daytime Emmy Award. Other television credits include Showtime's "The Last Debate," co-starring with James Gardner, Mary Todd Lincoln in "The Day Lincoln Was Shot" (TNT), Stephen Bochco's "Murder One," "Liberty!" (PBS), the 2000 Kennedy Center Honors (CBS), and guest appearances on "Law & Order," "Ally McBeal" and "The Practice."

Her many theater credits include: "Wonderful Town" (City Center Encores!), "Twelve Dreams" and "Hello Again" at Lincoln Center (Drama Desk nominations), "Song of Singapore" (Drama Desk, Outer Critics Circle nomination), and "Privates on Parade" (Roundabout Theater Company).

A versatile singer, Ms. Murphy can be heard on a number of recordings, including "Leonard Bernstein's New York," "The King and I" and the Grammy Award-winning "Passion."
