John Cleese Red on Wednesday 9:30 (8:30 Central)
John Cleese first appeared on British television in "The Frost Report," and went on to appear in "At Last the 1948 Show." In 1969 he co-created "Monty Python's Flying Circus," and later created and starred in "Fawlty Towers."Working with the Python team, he also produced the films "And Now for Something Completely Different," "Monty Python and the Holy Grail," "Monty Python's Life of Brian" and "Monty Python's the Meaning of Life." Cleese's other feature film roles include "The Great Muppet Caper," "Time Bandits," "Privates on Parade," "Silverado," "Clockwise," "Erik the Viking," "Splitting Heirs," "Mary Shelley's Frankenstein," "Rudyard Kipling's The Jungle Book," "The Out-of-Towners" and "Rat Race." He also starred in and co-wrote "A Fish Called Wanda" in 1988 and, using the same team of actors, made "Fierce Creatures" in 1996. He was most recently featured as Nearly Headless Nick in "Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone," and will be seen in the upcoming sequel, "Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets." In addition he was featured as Q in the James Bond film "The World is Not Enough," and will reprise the role in the upcoming "Die Another Day." Other television credits include playing Petruchio in "The Taming of the Shrew" as part of the BBC Shakespeare season, and appearing as Lacrobat in "Whoops Apocalypse" for LWT. He also wrote and presented the four-part documentary series "The Human Face," which was featured in America on The Learning Channel. Cleese created and produced "The Secret Policeman's Ball" shows for Amnesty International. He has also co-written two books: "Families and How to Survive Them" with Dr. Robin Skynner, which was produced as a series for BBC Radio 4 in 1990, and the sequel, "Life and How to Survive It," published in1993. In 1972 Cleese co-founded Video Arts, which swiftly became the leading provider of business training programs on video. Although he sold the company in 1991, he still appears in their videos. In 1993 he set up a new company, Videos for Patients, with Dr. Rob Buckman, to help improve communication between patients and doctors. There are currently 45 titles in this video series.
