While they alternated the role of Michelle (child labor laws require that twins play the role of very young children), they began to appear together in ABC TV movies, beginning with "To Grandmother's House We Go" in 1992, and followed by "Double, Double, Toil and Trouble" in 1993 and "How The West Was Fun" in 1994. In 1995, they made their feature film debut with Kirstie Alley in "It Takes Two."

During the final years of "Full House," Dualstar Productions was formed and began to release a series of videos, CDs and books featuring Mary-Kate and Ashley. Their albums, "I Am the Cute One" and "Brother For Sale," both became best-sellers. They also appear in an ongoing series of videos and books in which the girls portray junior detectives who promise to "solve any crime by dinnertime." Their most recent video releases are "You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Birthday Party," "You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Ballet Party" and "You're Invited to Mary-Kate & Ashley's Camp Out Party." They also release a new book each month.

The girls are fraternal, not identical twins. Ashley is the older by two minutes, is the taller of the two, has a freckle above her lip, and her hair is darker than Mary-Kate's. They have a younger sister named Lizzie and an older brother, Trent.
