Mahershalalhashbaz Ali Jelani on Threat Matrix
Mahershalalhashbaz (Ma-Her-Sha-Lal-Hash-Baz) Ali -- known to his friends as Ali -- is fast becoming a recognizable face. Born in Oakland, California, he attended St. Mary's College of California where he became a key player of their Division I college basketball team and from which he graduated with a degree in Mass Communications.After finishing college, Ali's acting career took off. He made his professional debut at the California Shakespeare Festival, starring in such plays as "Henry V," "Henry IV" and the "The Merry Wives of Windsor." He also played one of the lead characters in the critically acclaimed play, "The Great White Hope," at the Arena Stage Theatre in Washington, DC. Realizing that he wanted to pursue acting as a career, Ali attended NYU's Graduate Acting Program and received his MFA in acting. While there he performed in several NYU Theatre productions, including "Blues for an Alabama Sky," "The School for Scandal" and "Monkey in the Middle." He made his feature film debut in the independent film "Pig Music." Ali has previously been seen on the small screen as Dr. Trey Sanders in the NBC series "Crossing Jordan," opposite Jill Hennessy. He has also guest-starred on CBS' "CSI," ABC's "NYPD Blue" and UPN's "Haunted." Now he plays Jelani, a quick, technology-savvy secret agent on ABC's "Threat Matrix."
