Ian Gomez Danny on Norm
From Larry, the shamelessly self-promoting (remember the "Full Monty" episode?) instigator on "The Drew Carey Show"; to Javier, the quirky, flamboyant cafe manager on "Felicity"; to the mimicking secretary no. 77 on "Murphy Brown," Ian Gomez' recurring characters make a lasting impression on television audiences. For this actor -- who was born and raised in Manhattan and is proud of his "Russian-Puerto Rican-Jewish-Greek Orthodox" heritage -- diversity, spontaneity and creativity seem to be the keys to his success. With an artist father from Puerto Rico and a dancer mother from the Bronx, Ian is surrounded by creative people in his family. He is married to actress Nia Vardalos, whose successful one-person show, "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," was nominated for the 1998 Los Angeles Ovation Award for Best New Play. The play is based on the story of the couple's wedding and Ian's introduction into his wife's family. Ian's decision to focus strictly on acting began while he was working in restaurant management in New York City. Surrounded by actors/waiters with "too many horror stories," Ian made the instant decision to leave New York and head for Chicago, where he planned to slowly develop his talent. He soon joined The Second City comedy group, where he remained for more than seven years honing his craft. Weekly appearances at the ImprovOlympics in Chicago sharpened his improv skills even more. Ian occasionally performs with his "Drew Carey Show" co-stars on the ABC improvisational hit series, "Whose Line Is It Anyway?" Ian's other television credits include guest starring roles on "Melrose Place," "Married . . . With Children," "Smart Guy" and "The Untouchables," as well as a recurring role on "Missing Persons." Ian was also seen on the silver screen in the Ron Howard feature film, "EdTV," with Ellen DeGeneres, Matthew McConaughey and Rob Reiner. Ian also stars in the independent feature, "Courting Courtney," directed by Paul Tarantino; and has a cameo in the upcoming Warner Bros. film, "The Big Tease," due out this fall. Ian's other feature film credits include "Meet Prince Charming," "Till There Was You," "Rookie of the Year" and "Excessive Force." Ian and his wife currently reside in Los Angeles.
