Norm (premiered as The Norm Show) This program has completed its run and is no longer seen on WCHS-TV8
From executive producers Bruce Helford, co-creator and executive producer of "The Drew Carey Show," and comedian Norm Macdonald ("Saturday Night Live," "Dirty Work"), along with Deborah Oppenheimer (executive producer, "The Drew Carey Show"), Bruce Rasmussen and Rob Ulin ("Roseanne") comes "Norm," a comedy series starring Norm Macdonald and Laurie Metcalf ("Roseanne").Meet Norm Henderson. Once a fairly well-known -- but not particularly good -- professional hockey player, Norm's penchant for gambling and avoidance of paying taxes resulted in his expulsion from hockey for life. Facing a possible jail term, Norm was instead sentenced to community service as a social worker, where his fresh perspective on the field and lack of patience for bureaucracy doesn't always jibe well with his by-the-book co-workers. Enter Laurie, who was Norm's social worker during his fall from grace, and is now his co-worker and best friend. At work, Laurie is a meticulous, by-the-rules worker who cares about her clients, takes her job seriously and is skilled in helping others work out their problems. Outside the office, Laurie's life is a constant struggle with the forces that bring most single working people to their knees -- love, finances and the search for free time. With Norm's help, Laurie learns that it's okay to sometimes bend -- if not break -- the rules of the system. And with Laurie's help, Norm learns that there are actually times that the system does work if he's just willing to check his sarcasm at the door. Rounding out the office staff is Danny (Ian Gomez, "The Drew Carey Show"), a friend who will defend Norm at all costs but who has many quirky issues of his own. In addition, Norm's no-nonsense boss, Mr. Denby (Max Wright), just wants to maintain his sanity and secure his retirement benefits, but Norm makes this goal a rough one for Denby to obtain. Joining the cast this season is Artie Lange as Artie Henderson, Norm's screw-up of a half-brother, who moves to New York and wreaks havoc throughout Norm's life. Also, the office will have a new employee as Taylor Clayton (Nikki Cox), a reformed prostitute and Norm's former client, begins working as an assistant in efforts to better her life. The series, which premiered on March 24, 1999, is executive produced by Bruce Helford, Norm Macdonald, Bruce Rasmussen, Rob Ulin and Deborah Oppenheimer; and created by Helford and Macdonald. "Norm," which is filmed before an audience in Los Angeles, is from Mohawk Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Need to write?
