Walter "Pip" Phillips on The Job


Bill Nunn Walter "Pip" Phillips on the ABC Television Network's "The Job" Bill Nunn portrays "Pip," Mike McNeil's partner on the force. Though Pip is content to let McNeil take the lead at times, he is not afraid to speak his mind when McNeil gets out of line. Though McNeil may not always follow his advice, Pip is true to himself, as well as to his feisty wife, Adinah, to whom he is devoted.

Bill was raised in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Atlanta's Morehouse College. He received an Artist in Residence award to Spelman College and has taught theater workshops and directed numerous children's theater productions. From 1980-1983, together with longtime friend Al Cooper, Nunn developed a comedy act known as "Nunn and Cooper" and performed at nightclubs throughout the U.S. His extensive stage work includes roles in "Fences," "A Soldier's Play," "T-Bone 'n Weasel," "A Lesson from Aloes," "Split Second," "Macbeth," "Blues for an Alabama Sky" and "Everybody's Ruby."

Bill first gained international attention for his portrayal of Radio Raheem in Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing," and also starred in Lee's "He Got Game," "School Daze" and "Mo' Better Blues." He is familiar to film audiences through his roles as a cop keeping Whoopi Goldberg undercover in "Sister Act" and as Harrison Ford's compassionate but determined physical therapist in "Regarding Henry." His other film credits include the forthcoming "Substitute 4," "Things to do in Denver When You're Dead," "The Legend of 1900," "Ambushed," "The Tic Code," "The Hungry Bachelor's Club," "Mad City," "Kiss the Girls," "Extreme Measures," "Bulletproof," "Money Train," "The Last Seduction," "Canadian Bacon," "Cadillac Man," "New Jack City," "Glory" and "Sharkey's Machine."

His TV credits include the telefilms "Mr. & Mrs. Loving," "Quicksilver Highway," "Native Strangers," "Fallen Angels," "Passing Glory," "Always Outnumbered," "Dangerous Heart," "The Alibi," "War Stories," "Ellen Foster," "Carriers," "White Lie," "Littlest Victims," "A Yankee in King Arthur's Court" and "Silent Witness: What a Child Saw." He has guest-starred on "Touched by an Angel," "Chicago Hope," "Millennium" and "Early Edition," and had series regular roles on "Traps" and pilots for "The Precinct" and "Local Heroes." Bill was nominated for an Image Award for his role as Lt. Carver on "New York Undercover."

Bill resides in Fayette County, Georgia with his wife, Donna, and daughters, Jessica and Cydney.
