The Job Formerly Wednesdays at 9:30 pm on WCHS-TV8
Cutting-edge actor-comedian Denis Leary ("The Thomas Crown Affair," "The Ref") stars in a new, single-camera, half-hour comedy series shot entirely on location in New York and New Jersey. The program unites Leary with Emmy Award-winning writer Peter Tolan ("The Larry Sanders Show"). They created a new comedy series about Mike McNeil (Leary), a tough New York City detective whose roughest assignment is himself. He's struggling to balance a challenging personal life with a job that leaves him wondering, on a daily basis, if he is the last sane person in New York. His unconventional approach to his job makes him a great cop, even on the most trying days. The only thing he can't figure out is why, if he's the only sane guy around, everyone's always looking at him like he's crazy.McNeil's fellow detectives in the precinct include his loyal partner, Pip (Bill Nunn), who is sometimes challenged by McNeil's roving moral compass; Frank (Lenny Clarke), a seasoned vet who has seen it all, done it all, and is happy to take it easy till retirement; Jan (Diane Farr), a gutsy single mom who is unafraid to upbraid McNeil when he needs it; Tommy (Adam Ferrara), a by-the-book cop who occasionally butts heads with him; and Ruben (John Ortiz), an earnest rookie who, along with his young partner Al (Julian Acosta), is learning what real police work is all about. Lt. Williams (Richard Gant) oversees all the detectives. In the show's premiere episode, "Pilot," McNeil is having a bad day. He's just trying to do his job, but his self-inflicted health problems plague him. He's trying to juggle the demands of his wife, his girlfriend and his partner, Pip, who has doubts about his own attractiveness. Meanwhile, a guilty suspect refuses to confess, prompting some fresh approaches by Frank, Tommy and McNeil, and someone is throwing cans of beans out the window at unsuspecting pedestrians. It is up to Mike and his colleagues to make the city safer, without losing their minds or their lives in the process. "The Job" stars Denis Leary as Mike McNeil, Lenny Clarke as Frank Harrigan, Diane Farr as Jan Fendrich, Adam Ferrara as Tommy Manetti, Bill Nunn as Walter "Pip" Phillips and John Ortiz as Ruben Sommariba. Guest starring are Julian Acosta as Al Rodriguez, Richard Gant as Lt. Williams, Wendy McKenna as Karen McNeil, Karyn Parsons as Toni, Jimmy Burke as the bike cop and Dyron Holmes as Ironsides. Peter Tolan, Denis Leary, Lauren Corrao and Jim Serpico are executive producers of "The Job." The series is from DreamWorks Television and Touchstone Television Productions, LLC, in association with Apostle and The Cloudland Company. The series premiered Wednesday, March 14, 2001 at 9:30 PM. Due to adult subject matter and language, viewer discretion is advised.
