Frank Langella Jackson Burns on The Beast
Frank Langella's distinguished career in theatre and films brings to "The Beast" an actor of great versatility and worldwide acclaim. This is his first venture into series television. His previous work has brought him numerous awards, including a Tony, four Drama Desk Awards, the National Society of Film Critics Award, three Obie Awards, an LA Drama Critics Award and the Cable Ace Award. In addition he's been nominated for two Tony's, two Golden Globes and the Emmy Award.Among his recent performances for some of the most prominent writers, producers and directors in film are Adrian Lyne's "Lolita," Roman Polanski's "The Ninth Gate," Ivan Reitman's "Dave," Steven Spielberg's "Small Soldiers" and the upcoming "Sweet November," directed by Pat O'Connor. Past successes include John Badham's "Dracula," Mel Brooks' "The Twelve Chairs" and Frank Perry's "Diary of a Mad Housewife." Over 80 theatrical performances include, for Broadway: Edward Albee's "Seascape" (his debut), Noel Coward's "Present Laughter," George C. Scott's production of "Design for Living," "The Father," "Amadeus" for Sir Peter Hall, "Hurly Burly" for Mike Nichols; and Off-Broadway: Arthur Miller's "After the Fall," "The Tempest," Sam Shepard's "Tooth of Crime," "Cyrano de Bergerac" and many more in America's most renowned regional theatres. In Los Angeles he has starred in "Les Liasons Dangereuses" at the Ahmanson, "The Father" at the Geffen Playhouse and "Scenes from an Execution" at the Mark Taper Forum. His television appearances include HBO's "The Doomsday Gun," Showtime's "Monkey House," CBS' "Leonardo Da Vinci", and the PBS specials, Tennessee Williams' "Eccentricities of a Nightingale," "The Seagull" and "The Prince of Homborg." Mr. Langella has just completed a highly successful engagement at the Theatre in Madison Square Garden of Charles Dickens' "A Christmas Carol," for New York's most prominent musical comedy director, Susan Stroman. His performance as Ebenezer Scrooge was hailed by critics unanimously as the finest in that production's seven-year history. He has produced and directed on Broadway and Off-Broadway, and has published a number of essays in The New York Times and various other newspapers and magazines both here and in London. A native of Bayonne, New Jersey, he began acting in school plays as a child and continued performing while receiving a bachelor of science degree at Syracuse University.
