Spin City Late Night on WCHS-TV8
Michael J. Fox and his talented "Spin City" co-stars put the fun in the dysfunctional office family. Whether jumping in the Hudson River, or galloping bareback through Central Park, the cast goes the distance in this sophisticated ensemble comedy. The New York-inspired series shoots in New York. The final years of Spin City production were taped in Los Angeles.Michael J. Fox stars as Michael Flaherty, the Deputy Mayor of New York City, a man who knows how to expertly spin the most difficult situations at City Hall, but usually spins out of control when it comes to his personal life. Later, after Fox left the show, Charlie Sheen stars as Charlie Crawford, the charismatic and charming deputy mayor of New York City who has survived and prevailed in his first term in the mayoral office. Crawford's blemished past, which is somewhat similar to Sheen's, will continues to challenge him. And, just when the staff had adjusted to life after Mike (Michael J. Fox), he returns to City Hall for a visit. But this is a new, relaxed Mike who has found love and contemplates leaving politics to pursue a personal life. Mike's return also complicates Caitlin and Charlie's relationship, which was just blossoming. The Deputy Mayor are the right-hand man to the gaffe-prone Mayor Randall Winston. They are aided by the staff: Paul, the neurotic press secretary who is now the office's token married man; Carter, a gay activist trying to work within the system as special assistant for minority affairs; Stuart, the resident chauvinist pig and chief of staff; Nikki, the efficient accountant with the star-crossed personal life; James, the idealistic young speechwriter from the Midwest; Stacy, Michael's spitfire secretary from Brooklyn; and the Mayor's intrepid assistant, Janelle. Charlie continues to complicate his own life with his attempts to figure out how to have a "normal" relationship with a woman, all while wondering if that woman should be Caitlin. He has a rocky start with a beautiful woman named Jennifer, played by Denise Richards, who just happens to be the campaign manager for the Mayor's opponent. Caitlin, for her part, examines where she is in her life and considers becoming a single mother. This leads Carter to consider the same thing. Meanwhile, the Mayor will be running for reelection, as he deals with dating while being a public figure -- à la New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani. The mayor falls in love with a judge who is not yet divorced, cleverly portrayed by Farrah Fawcett. Paul's divorce from his wife Claudia -- who left him to become a nun -- will become final. And Stuart will find and deal with true love for someone who is very close to his roommate, Carter. Also guest starring this season is Queen Latifah, playing a wise congresswoman who comes to City Hall as a problem solver and a confidante for Caitlin. "Spin City" has garnered numerous honors, including two Golden Globe nominations, a People's Choice Award and a GLAAD Media Award. "Spin City" is produced by UBU Productions in association with DreamWorks Television. The series, which is filmed before a studio audience, premiered September 17, 1996. The series ended production in 2002. |
