Peter Gallagher
Michael on "The Secret Lives of Men"

Peter Gallagher is one of the industry's best-known film, stage and television performers. This fall, he will make his comedy series debut as a self-effacing, 30-something man whose only relief from the pain of an imminent divorce and separation from his children comes from the humor and support of his fellow-divorcee friends and a weekly game of golf.

Gallagher, who grew up in Armonk, New York, developed an interest in acting as a teenager starring in plays and musicals. After graduating from Tufts University, he made his professional stage debut in the 1977 revival of "Hair," followed by a starring role in the Broadway production of "Grease."

Gallagher made his feature film debut in 1980 in Taylor Hackford's "The Idolmaker" and has since worked with some of the industry's most notable directors, including Robert Altman in such projects as "The Player," "Short Cuts," "Mrs. Parker and the Vicious Circle" and Steven Soderbergh's "Sex, Lies and Videotape" and "The Underneath." Following his film debut, he went on to appear in numerous features, including "Dreamchild," "Tune In Tomorrow," "Late for Dinner," "Bob Roberts," "Watch It," "Malice," "The Hudsucker Proxy," "Mother's Boys," "Last Dance," "To Gillian on her 37th Birthday," "Café Society," "Johnny Skidmarks"; the hit comedy, "While You Were Sleeping," opposite Sandra Bullock; and "The Man Who Knew Too Little," with Bill Murray and Joanne Whalley.

In television, Gallagher has appeared in several award-winning telefilms and miniseries. Most recently, he co-starred with Mimi Rogers and Bridgette Wilson in "Virtual Obsession," an ABC telefilm which aired during the 1997-98 season. His other starring roles on television include HBO's "Path to Paradise," the story of the World Trade Center bombing; "The Frightening Frammis," directed by Tom Cruise; and the Emmy Award-winning miniseries, "The Murder of Mary Phagan" and "Brave New World." His other television credits include "The Quiet Room," "The Caine Mutiny Court Martial," "The Titanic," PBS' "The Big Knife" and Peter Sellars' silent film, "The Cabinet of Dr. Ramirez."

Gallagher travels between his homes in New York and Los Angeles with his wife, Paula, and two children.
