Todd Field David Casilli on Once and Again A longtime mainstay of independent films, writer-actor-director-composer-producer Todd Field will appear in two mainstream feature films this summer. He recently returned from a stay in London where he worked with Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman in Stanley Kubrick's "Eyes Wide Shut," which was released in July. In late 1999, Field will star in a film which he co-produced -- Scott Ziehl's independent drama, "Broken Vessels" -- which chronicles the apprenticeship of a wide-eyed EMT trainee as the partner of a loose cannon ambulance driver and how it forever alters his life. Field is perhaps best known for his roles in two memorable independent films: Nicole Holofcener's "Walking and Talking," co-starring Anne Heche; and Catherine Keener and Victor Nunez's "Ruby in Paradise," co-starring Ashley Judd. Field's performance as greenhouse worker Mike McCaslin earned him a Best Supporting Actor nomination by the Independent Spirit Awards. Field is perhaps better recognized for his performance as part of the team of storm trackers in the special effects blockbuster, "Twister," with Helen Hunt and Bill Paxton. His other feature credits include "Sleep With Me," "Queen's Logic," "Fat Man & Little Boy," "Gross Anatomy" and "Radio Days." He has also made a name for himself as a writer-director of the 1992 short film, "Too Romantic"; as well as "Nonnie & Alex," which received the Special Jury Award at the 1995 Sundance Film Festival and first prize at the 1995 Shortsfest in Aspen. His other directorial credits include "Delivering," "The Dog" and "When I Was a Boy." As a composer, Field has contributed the scores to "Broken Vessels" and "Ruby in Paradise," as well as Tom Eberhardt's "Gross Anatomy" and Carl Franklin's "Nowhere to Run." Need to write? |
