Nicholas Turturro
Detective James Martinez on NYPD Blue

Nicholas Turturro has left the cast of NYPD Blue. The following is information about the star during the time he was with NYPD Blue.

Nicholas Turturro photo The youngest of three boys, Nicholas Turturro was born and raised in the Rosedale section of Queens, New York. After attending Catholic elementary and high schools, he majored in theater at Adelphi University for two years, but left to get married and raise a family.

While working as a doorman at a New York City hotel, Nick took a job as an extra in Spike Lee's "Do the Right Thing." Convinced of Nick's talent, Lee wrote a part for him in his next film, "Mo' Better Blues," and, in a case of art imitating life, Nick's real-life brother, John Turturro ("Quiz Show"), played his brother in that film. The pair again appeared together in Lee's "Jungle Fever."

Turturro had a featured role in "Malcolm X" and also appeared in "Metropolitan," "Love Anyone," "Federal Hill" and "Mac," the latter written and directed by brother John as a tribute to their late father. Nick's most recent films include "The Search for One-Eye Jimmy," which he also co-produced, and the upcoming "Excess Baggage," starring Alicia Silverstone and Christopher Walken.

Among his television credits are guest-starring roles in "Law and Order"; "The Young Indiana Jones Chronicles," in which he played a young Al Capone; and the telefilm, "Dead and Alive." Nick also had a leading role in the Witt/Thomas pilot, "Better Days."

On stage, he has appeared in "Wild Goose," "The Resistible Rise of Arturo Ui," "Lusting After Popino's Wife" and "Siddown: Conversations With the Mob."
