Garcelle Beauvais
Assistant District Attorney Valerie Haywood on NYPD Blue

Garcelle Beauvais photo Born in St. Marc, Haiti, Garcelle Beauvais (pronounced bo-vay) enjoyed a "perfectly normal" childhood with her four older sisters and two older brothers. At the age of seven she and her family immigrated to the U.S. so that her mother could attend nursing school.

With French and Creole as her native languages, Beauvais learned English by watching "Sesame Street." She also endured culture shock that came from being the only black student in her new elementary school. At age sixteen she and her family left the freezing temperatures of Massachussetts for the warmer climate of Miami, Florida.

Encouraged by family and friends, Beauvais began modeling at seventeen. She signed with Ford models in New York and appeared in magazine layouts for Avon, Clairol and Mary Kay Cosmetics. She has also graced the pages of Ebony and Essence magazines and the runways for designers Calvin Klein and Isaac Mizrahi.

In 1991 Beauvais moved to Los Angeles to launch an acting career. Her big break came after a dream inspired her to write producer Aaron Spelling, and she was quickly cast in his series "Models, Inc." She recently completed a five-year run in the hit sitcom "The Jamie Foxx Show," in which she portrayed Foxx's love interest.

Her film credits include "Double Take," in which she starred opposite Eddie Griffina and Orlando Jones, and she co-stars in the cable movie "Second String," a football drama with Jon Voight, Gil Bellows and Richard T. Jones. She also recently completed filming the Disney/Touchstone feature "Black Sheep," opposite Chris Rock and Anthony Hopkins, for director Joel Schumacher.

Beauvais resides in Los Angeles with her husband, Mike Nilon, her son, Oliver, and golden retriever Shadow.
