Angus Macfadyen photo Scottish-born actor Angus Macfadyen has been seen in a range of characters through his career, from famed director Orson Welles in Tim Robbins' "Cradle Will Rock" to Peter Lawford in HBO's critically acclaimed "The Rat Pack." He can next be seen in the Miramax sci-fi thriller "Equilibrium," starring opposite Christian Bale and Emily Watson.

Macfadyen was most recently seen in the Warner Bros. film "The Divine Secrets of the Ya Ya Sisterhood," starring opposite Sandra Bullock and Ellen Burstyn. Based on the bestselling novel, the story follows a group of lifelong friends who stage an intervention to help a young playwright unravel the truth about her complicated, eccentric mother, find forgiveness and acceptance, and let go of her painful past.

Macfadyen is perhaps best known for his role in Mel Gibson's Academy Award-winning "Braveheart" as Robert the Bruce. His other feature film credits include "Titus," "Lanai-Loa," "Snide & Prejudice," "Nevada," "Still Breathing," "Warriors of Virtue" and "The Brylcreem Boys."

For television he portrayed Zeus in the miniseries "Jason and the Argonauts" and Richard Burton in "Destiny -- the Elizabeth Taylor Story." He also was seen in the British television movies "Takin' Over the Asylum" for BBC Scotland, and "The Lost Language of Cranes" for the BBC.

Educated in France, Macfadyen attended the University of Edinburgh and the Central School of Speech and Drama. He began his acting career on the stage at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, where he took part in such plays as "The Tempest," "Cloud Nine" and "The Immortal." He has also written several plays, including "1905," which received the 1991 Questors Theatre Student Playwriting Award.
