Making the Band Formerly Fridays 8:30-9:00 PM on WCHS-TV8 Premiered Friday, March 24, 2000, 9:00-10:00 PM
ABC Entertainment, MTV Productions and Trans Continental Records' Lou Pearlman -- the man behind the success of some of today's most successful recording artists, including the Backstreet Boys, 'N SYNC and LFO -- have joined forces to create the band, O-Town, the latest singing sensations to hit the music scene and primetime television. The real-life drama will go behind the scenes in the pop music industry and give viewers a first-hand look into the lives of a group of talented young men pursuing their dreams of being in a band. From the gripping cross-country talent search to the band's training and recording process to the triumph of their first public performance as a group, the cameras will document their transformation from ordinary young men to rising pop stars. But the true drama will unfold from the interpersonal issues that arise among the artists as they work and live together in their new home in Orlando, Florida. The cameras will capture their lives and loves and follow their emotional journeys as they discover what it takes to make it in the competitive world of pop music. In the premiere episode, 25 eager finalists will be chosen from a nationwide talent search that took place in November 1999 in the following eight cities: Honolulu, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, Nashville, Chicago, New York City and Orlando. Casting will be narrowed down to eight finalists, which will lead to the final selection of the five O-Town band members. O-Town is a group of five culturally diverse young men, ages 18-25, hailing from all across the country. The identities of the band members will be revealed throughout the show's run. "Making the Band" is executive produced by Ken Mok at MTV Productions, Mary-Ellis Bunim and Jonathan Murray at Bunim/Murray Productions ("The Real World," "Road Rules"). Clay Newbill is supervising producer with Kathy Wetherell serving as line producer. C.B. Harding is the series' lead director. The series is from Bunim/Murray Productions.
