Marianne Muellerleile Gloria on Life with Bonnie
While Ms. Muellerleile was appearing as Eunice in "A Streetcar Named Desire" at the University of Minnesota, the director, Dr. Charles Nolte, the original Billy Budd on Broadway, invited his old friend, Tennessee Williams, to see their production.Mr. Williams was so impressed with Ms. Muellerleile and the other two female actors in his play that he told the local newspapers they were the "future of American theater." With that wonderful compliment, it wasn't long before artistic directors from the regional theaters flocked to see their performances. As a result Ms. Muellerleile was offered an Equity contract. But since she was in the first of a three-year Masters of Fine Arts program, she turned it down. Also, she was more interested in becoming a teacher because she felt acting was "just to impractical." Nonetheless she was intrigued by the opportunity, so she asked Terence Kilburn, former child star of the MGM era and Artistic Director of the Meadow Brook Theater of Rochester, Minnesota, if he could return the next year and make the same offer. Remarkably he did, and it was a better offer than the first. She ended up working at Meadow Brook Theater and various other theaters before moving to Los Angeles in 1981. Ms. Muellerleile's more than 175 television credits include "Will & Grace," recurring as Norma on "Passions," "The Hughleys," "Charmed," "Chicago Hope," "7th Heaven," "3rd Rock From The Sun" and "The Journey of Allen Strange." Her feature film credits include "Memento," "Return to Me," "A Smile Like Yours," "Liar Liar," "Executive Decision" and "Passion Fish." Ms. Muellerleile and her husband, retired USAF Lieutenant Colonel Tom Norris, live in Los Angeles. For many years the couple operated free after-school programs, helping dozens of neighborhood kids with everything from homework to computers to life skills and cultural enrichment. She is still involved with different grassroots efforts and volunteer activities. In her spare time Ms. Muellerleile enjoys traveling, family genealogy, sewing and the performing arts.
