John Stamos Jake Phillips on Jake in Progress
Actor/producer John Stamos continues to find success in many different areas of the entertainment world. He serves as executive producer as well as the star in his latest project, a romantic comedy for ABC in which he portrays a New York publicist.Last year he starred in the Tony Award-winning "NINE." After an extensive search for the lead role of Guido Contini, Stamos replaced Antonio Banderas. His Broadway debut came in 1997's "How To Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," and in 2000 he starred as the Emcee in "Cabaret." The New York Post said of his "Cabaret" performance: "The latest incarnation is John Stamos, who makes him attractive, grotesque, vicious, hard-edged and - beneath all the campery and giggles - stealthily heterosexual." Recent film credits include the independent films "I Am Stamos" and "Knots." Through his Warner Bros.-based production company, Stamos currently has many television projects in the works - among these, he is producing a remake of the 1941 classic "Meet John Doe" for ABC. His other produing credits include an Emmy nomination in 2000 for co-producing the ABC miniseries "Beach Boys: An American Family." Not limiting himself to behind-the-camera work, in 2001 Stamos appeared in the ABC romantic comedy "Thieves," about a pair of master thieves who become covert government agents. USA Today said of his performance, "the real revelation here is Stamos." As a result of his return to television, he was voted "The Sexiest Comeback" in People's Sexiest Men Alive issue. On the big screen he made his entry into the independent film world in the black comedy, "Dropping Out," which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in 2000, and in the contemporary romantic comedy, "Grownups." Stamos' career has spanned more than 20 years. He started on the hit soap "General Hospital," and later segued to the popular ABC series, "Full House." After a successful tour on Broadway in "How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying," he appeared in a variety of television films, including "The Marriage Fool," opposite Walter Matthau and Carol Burnett. He has also displayed his musical talents over the past 15 years while touring with "The Beach Boys." Stamos currently lives in Los Angeles.
