Evan Handler
Shrug on It's Like, You Know......

Evan Handler photo Before landing the role of Shrug, the millionaire trust-fund baby who, he notes, "has never worked a day in his life and occasionally feels guilty about it," on ABC's comedy series, "It's Like, You Know...," Evan Handler starred in two network television comedies, "Sibs" (ABC) and "Whoops."

Mr. Handler's film credits include his role as one of the kidnappers in Ron Howard's "Ransom," as well as leading roles in "Taps," "Sweet Lorraine" and "Dear Mr. Wonderful," and featured roles in Oliver Stone's "Natural Born Killers" and "The Chosen."

Though Mr. Handler may be best known for his mid-performance exit from the Broadway show, "I Hate Hamlet," after being struck by a sword-wielding Nicol Williamson, he is a veteran of no fewer than seven Broadway productions. He has played leading roles in "Six Degrees of Separation," "Broadway Bound," "Brighton Beach Memoirs," "Solomon's Child" and, with a national touring company, "Master Harold . . . and the Boys."

He has also made numerous appearances off-Broadway, including roles in "Big Al and Slam" at Ensemble Studio Theatre, "Big Al" at American Jewish Theatre, Donald Marguilles' "Found a Peanut" at the Public Theatre, and "What's Wrong with This Picture" at Manhattan Theatre Club. He has starred in world and American premieres at top-flight regional theaters like Seattle Rep, Steppenwolf Theater and The Mark Taper Forum.

If he weren't acting, Mr. Handler would still be busy as an author and screenwriter. His book, "Time On Fire: My Comedy of Terrors," adapted from his successful off-Broadway play, was published by Little, Brown and Company in 1996 and in paperback by Henry Holt the following year. He attended the prestigious Sundance Institute Screenwriter's Lab in 1998 with his screenplay adaptation of the book, which is scheduled for production in 1999. He has also written assignments for the New Yorker, ELLE magazine, Mirabella and USA Weekend.
