It's Like, You Know...
This program has completed its run and is no longer seen on WCHS-TV8

It's Like, You Know... photo From Peter Mehlman ("Seinfeld's" co-executive producer) and Ted Harbert comes the witty, half-hour comedy, "It's Like, You Know..." a scathing and hilarious look at life in Los Angeles through a New York viewpoint.

This is a revealing look at the City of Dreamers through the eyes of a diehard New Yorker. All of Tinseltown's pretenses -- its Hollywood aura, its valley girls and its strange allure -- are filtered through the mind of someone from a culture as foreign to the City of Glitter as a subway is to the Pacific Coast Highway.

The rest of the world may be fascinated by L.A.'s high-speed car chases, January sunshine and rampant silicone, but Arthur Garment (Chris Eigeman), a die-hard New York journalist, gives the nation a reality check. Arthur is mystified by the Evian-sipping culture. Yet he's also taken by the city's magic and tries desperately to maintain his Big Apple aloofness. But that's hard to do once you've met a sexy masseuse/process server or seen supermodels at the next table at an outdoor cafe or watched the actress-next-door, Jennifer Grey, lubing up with suntan lotion.

Arthur traveled from New York to L.A. to write about why he hates the City of Vacuous Angeles. His plan was to stay for two months at the luxury guest house of his old college chum, Robbie (Steven Eckholdt), a handsome charmer who schemed his way to riches. Owning the property is the winsome and innocent millionaire Shrug (Evan Handler), whose bank account is matched only by his sense of purposelessness.

And there's Lauren (A.J. Langer), a young beauty from Ohio; a dreamer, trying to balance careers in massage and process serving. And don't forget actress Jennifer Grey, once famous for dirty dancing with Patrick Swayze and now clawing her way to a comeback in a town quick to forget you when your "15 minutes" are up.

"It's like, you know . . ." puts L.A. under a microscope; it's all too surreal, too dipped in the absurd -- and you may never want to leave. It isn't like any other comedy on TV. It's unpredictable, it's sharp, and it's taking a hard New York look at one of the most pretentious yet fascinating cities in the world.

The series stars Chris Eigeman as Arthur, Steven Eckholdt as Robbie, Evan Handler as Shrug, Jennifer Grey as herself and A.J. Langer as Lauren.

"It's like, you know..." was created by Peter Mehlman, who is also executive producer with Ted Harbert. The series is from 42 Pound Productions and Don't Choke Productions in association with Dreamworks SKG. The show premiered March 24, 1999.
