Popular stand-up comedian D.L. Hughley stars in a family comedy about achieving the American Dream -- and not knowing what to do with it.

One of 1998-'99 season's top-rated new shows, "The Hughleys" received a People's Choice Award nomination for Favorite New Television Series, and D.L. was nominated for Favorite Male Performer in a New Television Series.

D.L. returns as Darryl Hughley, a self-made businessman who moved his wife and two children into a brand-new house in a fancy suburban neighborhood of Los Angeles.

Initially, the sometimes irascible but fun-loving Darryl needed some convincing that enjoying his hard-earned middle-class status did not mean losing touch with his roots. He now feels more at home with his new community and friends. Through this process, he hasn't lost his ability to be forthcoming with those around him. And he's never reluctant to share his unique perspective of being an African-American husband and father living in the suburbs.

Darryl's wife, Yvonne, known for her strength, intelligence and ability to trade punch lines with her volatile husband, will be even more involved in their new community. She will find herself becoming more vocal in defense of stay-at-home moms and their value to our culture.

Darryl and Yvonne share the same ups and downs as any parents in their efforts to raise good kids. Their two children, Sydney, 11, and 10-year-old Michael, have had their own growing pains settling into the new neighborhood. They will continue to find that the support and love they have always received from their parents will help them weather any storm.

Darryl's business partner and best buddy, Milsap, wants to prove to his girlfriend that he is indeed ready to settle down. So he moves into the Hughleys' neighborhood, which may not be the best thing for Darryl and Milsap's friendship.

Sally and Dave Rogers, the Hughleys' next-door neighbors, have turned out to be good friends to the family. The loving couple with their two young children appear to be living an idyllic life, but there could be trouble brewing in paradise.

Matt Wickline, Robert Greenblatt, David Janollari, Chris Rock, Michael Rotenberg and Dave Becky are the executive producers. D.L. Hughley is a producer and co-creator of "The Hughleys" with Matt Wickline. John Bowman is the consulting producer. The co-executive producers are Kim Friese and Eunetta Boone. The show, filmed before an audience, is from The Greenblatt Janollari Studio and premiered on September 22, 1998.
