Cassius on the epic series Empire


Michael Maloney Michael Maloney portrays the scheming Cassius, who conspires with Brutus to assassinate Julius Caesar.

Maloney recently completed filming for "Kisna" in India. He has appeared in three films directed by Kenneth Branagh: "Hamlet," portraying Laertes alongside Kate Winslet and Judi Dench; "Henry V," as Charles Dauphin, and in the leading role of Joe Harper in "A Midwinter's Tale." He has also played Rodrigo in Othello, starring Laurence Fishburne. Other feature highlights include director Anthony Minghella's romantic drama, "Truly Madly Deeply," and recent foreign films "Nouvelle France," "Bienvenue au Gite," "Sans Plombe," "La Maschera" and "Hysteria."


On the small screen in the U.S., Maloney is most familiar to viewers from co-starring with Helen Mirren in the crime drama "Painted Lady," and from appearances in the miniseries "The Forsyte Saga (Series II)"and "The Jury." He was also in a recently screened "Me and Mrs. Jones" and in the Jim Henson-produced telefilm, "Living with Dinosaurs." In addition he starred in "What If It's Raining," a four-part series by Minghella, and has provided voice for an extensive list of radio and documentary productions.

In the United Kingdom, Maloney's television work runs the gamut from series to numerous made-for-television movies, including "The Swap," starring as T.E. Lawrence in "Lawrence of Arabia: The Battle for the Arab World," "Henry VIII," "Twelfth Night," "King," as Bob Cratchett in "A Christmas Carol," "Macbeth," "Sex & Chocolate," "Love on a Branch Line" and "The Last Place on Earth." His series work includes portraying Charles Dickens in "Let's Write a Story," "Believe Nothing" and "The Bell." He also starred as Peter Telford in "Telford's Change."

At the acclaimed Royal Shakespeare Company, Maloney has been showcased in a rich variety of roles, including Romeo in "Romeo and Juliet," Hal in "Henry IV (Parts 1 & 2), "Derek" in the title role, Edgar in "King Lear," "A Woman Killed by Kindness," "Anthony & Cleopatra," "The Tempest," "Lear," "The Roaring Girl" and "Macbeth." Additional theater credits include "Mouth to Mouth," "Sleuth," the title roles in "Hamlet" and "Peer Gynt," Lewis Carroll in "Alice's Adventures Underground," and Benjamin Brittain in "Once in a While..." Other plays in London include "In Lambeth," "All My Sons," "Built on Sand," "The London Cuckolds," "Two Planks & a Passion," "The Perfectionist," "Can You Hear Me at the Back?" and "Taking Steps." Last fall he reprieved the role of Hamlet for director Yukio Ninagawa, playing a national U.K. tour and at London's The Barbican.

Maloney resides in London with his wife, Kim, and their baby daughter, Martha Rose.
