Jennifer Bassey Marian Colby on All My Children
After portraying the irrepressible Marian Colby on and off for 21 years, Daytime Emmy nominee Jennifer Bassey became a contract player on "All My Children" in the summer of 1995. Marian has finally found true love with the shy and gentle artist, Stuart Chandler (David Canary). Ms. Bassey was born in Chicago. She was most recently seen in Wendy Wasserstein's "Isn't It Romantic," which got rave reviews from the critics. Her first job in entertainment was that of a singing bunny in the Playboy Club in Chicago. Looking back at her two-year stint as a bunny, she recalls, "I was the meanest bunny in the hutch, darling, and I made an absolute fortune." After a two-year stint, she packed her bags and headed to the Royal Academy of Dramatic Arts in London, England. After graduating with honors from RADA, Ms. Bassey went on to the Big Apple, where she appeared in several Broadway shows. Some of them included "The Jockey Club Stakes," "Not Now Darling," directed by George Abbott, whom she worshipped; The Royal Shakespeare's production "The Homecoming"; "California Suite"; and "In Praise of Love," with Rex Harrison. Her off-Broadway credits include playing Katherine in "The Taming of the Shrew" at the Roundabout Theatre; Lady Macbeth in "Macbeth," at the Stratford Theatre; and costarring with Ken Kercheval in "Love Letters." In 1983 her formidable theater career led her to win the role of Marian Colby on "All My Children," signing for what was originally supposed to be a five-month stint. Due to the incredible popularity of the character, Marian is still going strong. Beyond her successful career in daytime television, Ms. Bassey has had a flourishing film career that includes such feature films as "Singles," "Bonfire of the Vanities," "Waxworks" and "Dunston Checks In" -- where,in a scene-stealing moment, she received an orgasmic massage from an orangutan. She has also had her share of primetime success, with roles on "LA Law," "Falcon Crest," "Matlock," "Murphy Brown," "Silk Stalkings" and "Coach." In 2000 Ms. Bassey received her first Emmy nomination for Best Supporting Actress and received the Soap Opera Award, along with her co-star David Canary, for Favorite Couple. She shares bicoastal homes with her long-time companion, Luther Davis, the famous playwright most known for "Kismet," "Grand Hotel" and "Timbuktu." In her spare time Ms. Bassey enjoys cooking, hiking, yoga, Nordic-tracking, bowling and many other sports. PERSONAL INFORMATION HOMETOWN: Chicago, IL BIRTHDATE: Unknown Need to write?
