Robert C. Byrd turns 91 years old.
Byrd was first elected to the Senate in 1958 and won a record ninth term two years ago.
Earlier this month, Byrd stepped down as chairman of the senate appropriations committee, a position that helped him steer billions of dollars in federal projects to the Mountain State.
